O'HARE GROUP

 

   

Sungmin Cho was a Part II at Keble College, working on developing LDHs to be used in C-C coupling reactions of secondary and primary alcohols. Outside of the lab, he played a bit of lacrosse and liked going to Sasi’s in the covered market.

Rob Strachan joined the group in 2018 as a Part 2 under the supervision of Philip Kenyon, working on ethylene co-polymerization from silica@LDH supports. Outside of the lab, Rob spent most of his time riding his bike and annoying the neighbours with his guitar playing

Max Grenwood was at Queen's College and was working under the supervision of Chunping who developed the Aqueous Miscible Solvent dispersed type of Layered Double Hydroxides (AMO-LDHs).Outside the lab, he could be found playing tennis, digging for music or behind the decks at a dimly lit cocktail bar.

Ben Michiels was at Somerville college and was working on small molecule activation with permethylpentalene double sandwich complexes under the supervision of Zoë Turner. Outside of the lab, he enjoyed reading, cooking, playing pool and working on his car.

Ben Simon was at Balliol College. He explored the use of frustrated Lewis pairs in the activation of dihydrogen and ultimately looking to append these systems to solid supports. He enjoyed baking and cooking, playing squash, tennis, hockey and camping.

Joe Abell was a Part II student at New College, working on the synthesis and characterisation of unsymmetrical permethylindenyl zirconium complexes and their use in ethylene polymerisation. Outside of the lab, he enjoyed watching football, listening to music, drinking whisky and playing the occasional game of squash.

Alasdair John Fowler was a Part II Student in 2016/17. He wrote a thesis on the history of LDH Chemistry.

Emma Tuckley was from Trinity College and  worked on layered double hydroxides under the supervision of Michelle Yang.

Joshua Matley was from Balliol College. He worked on Zirconium complexes and their use as lactide polymerisation initiators. In his free time he enjoyed football, cricket, running and cycling. He was also a keen Manchester United fan.

Coral Byles was at Lincoln College and worked on Zeolite-LDH hybrids as catalyst supports under the supervision of Chunping Chen.

George Hay was at New College and worked on synthesising supported zirconocene catalysts for ethylene polymerisation. In his free time he enjoyed rowing, watching Formula 1, and watching Manchester United.

Ryan Felton from Pembroke College was a Part II in 2013. He worked on silica-LDH nanoparticles as catalyst supports under the supervision of Chunping Chen.

Ella Cameron from Worcester College was a Part II in 2012 and looked into the synthesis of chromium and cobalt Pn* complexes.

George Harris from Balliol College was a Part II in 2011. George looked ubti te utilization of EBI* ligand for the polymerisation of ethylene.

Ali Travis from Balliol College was a Part II in 2011. He looked at the synthesis of frustrated lew pairs.

Jamie Undrell from Balliol college was a Part II in 2011. He studied the application of Layered Double Hydroxides in the creation of heat resistant polymers.

Emily Taylor from Balliol College was a Part II in 2010. She studied the industrial applications of layered double hydroxides.

Chio Kou from  Jesus College was a Part II in 2009 he studied organometallic ring opening polymerisation.

Tom

 

Tom Herrington from Balliol College was a Part II in 2009. He studied the catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide to methanol via frustrated lewis pairs. He did a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Ashley at Imperial College London. 

Richard Bull

 

Richard Bull from Balliol College was a Part II in 2009. He studied the industrial applications of layered double hydroxides.

 

Simon Randall, from Merton College, was a Part II looking into uranium permethylpentalene compounds. 

 

Andrew Rose, from Merton College, did his Part II in 2008-2009 and studied cyclopentadienial centred, permethylated metallocenes. 

 

Aran Samra, from Keble College, did his Part II in 2008-2009 and studied uranium metal organic frameworks. 

Luke Bennett

 

Luke Bennett, from Corpus Christi College, was a member of the group from 2007-2008 and studied organometallic complexes of pentalene under the supervision of Robert Cooper.

Jonathan Hurst

 

Jonathan Hurst was a member of Jesus College and did his Part II in 2007-2008 studying multi-dentate arene complexes, under the supervision of Paul Ransom. 

Mark O'Brien

 

Mark O'Brien, from Balliol College, was a member of the group from 2007-2008 and studied intercalation into LDHs, under the supervision of Charles Markland. His hobbies include rugby and squash. 

Nicola Russell

 

Nicola Russell, a former member of Lincoln College, was a member of the group from 2007-2008 and studied the synthesis of micro-porous solids, under the supervision of Yi Du. She was a keen sailor and sails for Team GB.

 

Ryan West, formerly of Jesus College, was a member of the group from 2007-2008 and studied organometallic compounds of pentalene. In his spare time he enjoyed playing football, despite being injury prone.

Jonathan Hyatt

 

Hailing from the Coast of Dreams, Jonathan Hyatt was a member of the group from 2006-2007 studying the catalytic dechlorination of PCBs, supervised by Andrew Fletcher. He was a student at St. Anne's College and liked rugby and the beach. 

 

David Johnston joined the Kays group in October 2006 under the supervision of Deborah Kays and as such was an associate member of the O'Hare group. He was a student at Exeter College. He left the group in 2007 to start his Ph.D in the Cloke group. He liked rugby and weightlifting. 

 

Louis Rooney was a member of Magdalen College and studied organometallic Tp compounds under the supervision of Paulina Aguirre from 2006-2007. He liked rowing. Too much! 

Jemima Thomas

 

Jemima Thomas was a member of the group from 2005-2006 under the supervision of James Moss. She worked on the organometallic compounds of permethylfluorene and was a member of University College.

Mathias Kramer

 

Mathias Kramer, originally from Sinn in Germany and a student at Balliol College, joined the group in 2005 as a Part II student. He studied pentalene chemistry and now works for Professor Jun Okuda in Aachen in Germany.
