Antonio Martinez joined the Weller group in January 2017. He received his PhD in 2012 from the University of Murcia, Spain, under the supervision of Profs Jose Vicente and Maria T. Chicote. His thesis focused on the chemistry organopalladium compounds and included a joint computational project with Prof John McGrady. Soon after that, he moved to the UK to work as a post-doctoral researcher with Dr Charles O’Hara and Prof Robert Mulvey in main group organometallic chemistry. Antonio is currently working on an SCG funded project, under the supervision of Prof Andrew Weller, focused on the upgrading of light hydrocarbons using low-temperature solid-state molecular organometallic catalysts (SMOM).
Antonio has recently secured a tenure-track academic and group leader position in the Research Centre for Sustainable Chemistry CIQSO at the University of Huelva, Spain, where he will initiate independent research and a research team soon in May 2019. His research will focus on molecular encapsulation chemistry, catalysis, and small molecule activation.
In his spare time, Antonio likes to relax by cooking, listening to music, running and cycling.
